The course is split into four components, all testing your knowledge in different ways.
Component 1 tests your knowledge through a recording task. It’s marked out of 60 and counts for 20% of your final grade.
Component 2 tests your knowledge through a composition task. It’s marked out of 60 and counts for 20% of your final grade.
Component 3 tests your listening and analysing skills through a written exam. It’s marked out of 75 and counts for 25% of your final grade.
Component 4 tests your producing and analysing skills through a half written, half practical exam. It’s marked out of 84 and counts for 35% of your final grade.
There are three areas of study. Area of study (AOS) 1 is red in the table above, AOS2 is in orange and AOS3 is in green.
As you can see from the table, not all topics or areas of study are covered in all the components (grey means the topic is covered in that component - white means its not!)
Area of study 1 focuses on recording and production techniques for corrective and creative purposes.
Area of study 2 covers the principles of sound and audio technology.
Area of study 3 details the development of recording and production technology.
